Tshimong won the bid to host the Ekurhuleni OR Tambo Debating Tournament 2016, in partnership with the Ekurhuleni Municipality, the Gauteng Department of Education and the OR Tambo Foundation. The focus of the tournament was on the life, legacy and contribution of OR Tambo.

Learners were taken to heritage sites such as the OR Tambo Precinct, inspiring a sense of pride in what it means to be a South African today.

Debating training and manuals were provided to learners. Teachers, Ekurhuleni officials and librarians attended a specialized debate training workshop to ensure that a culture of debating is sustained in schools beyond the tournament.
